Her first Oldtimer rally

Some psychological stress, and quite some forced preparation to finally get her ready for: her first oldtimer tour. Friends group and fraternity, Boght, exists 25 years as such a tour rally was organized. 750km of frightening kilomters, but the Jag did great! On the high-way the fuel consumption even went up to 1 liter per 9 km, or 11 liters.

Striping!

Finally, stripes! Orginal it ain't as she would than have a thin golden flat stripe. But after careful consultation, I decided with Paul Soret  to place a long chrome fine stripe on her.

Supplied by the stripe and rubber profile specialist in Brussels : Classic Car parts. around 80euros less I was the proud owner of 10meters chrome-plastic foldable auto glueing stripe.

Hereafter Paul Soret's sons helped to install:

45 versus 1 year!

Her first official ride in the year: A good friend from Vught came by, with her lovely girl. And the Green Lady was honored to give them a fine ride through Brussels park. Ain't it a perfect fit?

Oh yes she's thirsty! (Oil renewal)

Well, since it was not done structurally since I have her, it is time to get her ready for the summer and do an full engine oil renewal. Boy, she's thirsty!!!

320 EUR's of oil, all perfectly supplied by Anglo parts, just above Brussels.

The most difficult part is the differential oil, what a challenge.

There the little oil filter is: (yes some more cleaning will also be needed...) easy to reach from below the car.

She leaks an easy 10liters, so make sure you have enough buffers! The oil filter is fairly straight forward:

Break renewal about time

Her master break cylinder was leaking at the rubbers going in, leading to paint decay in the engine room and a very uncomfortable feeling at my side.

So, after ordering rubbers and break-oil resistant tubes, the renewal could begin.
Follow the instructions is enough, though refitting is a fine complex task.

Than feeding the break system again you need to do with two, one pumping, one opening the nipples. Lucky a good friend from Groningen, Klaas came in to help!

Finish the interior, adding leather smell

So, the last finishing touch on the interior. A good friend in Brussels in helping to add the last part: the renovated back seat, with a Gliptone original leather smell plate. Allthough the interior already looks and smells like new!

Rear windscreen: in and out

Get a good cutter and make your self angry. And out she is the rear-window:
Chrome and press-rubber are easyly out, than just the rubber with a Stanley-cutter:

Though a little surprise showed up, easily fixed with some Polyester epoxy from the DIY store:

 

Than the rust part well in the iron protection again (looks good on the green, isn't it?):

With WD-40 and a special tool provided by Paul Soret, it was easily fixed (alone):

Chrome: let it shine!

Valma chrome cleaner, an old towel and some patience....

More (moral) support: Interior, wipes etc get done!

Great event: (moral) support was on it's way from the far north in The Netherlands:

And don't underestimate the (guardening) power of the dog. A great help!

With two we went on doing the sound insulation carpeting for the car, fantastic progress in just a weekend. (Headlining was done on Saturday).

A Jag is not build by one man...

It's true the Green Lady can actually handle more than one man!
A friend and colleague offered to make his hands dirty, it took me less than a sec to be convinced...

After 60mins the new restored air filter was build in, piece of cake!

No issue to reward with a cold one later on.

A fresh air blowing in, restoring the driver air van

I always wondered why the airblower on the driver side was so silent...
Well, the common answer to 90% of your Jag issues: it must have been water.... And so it was....

And with some love and passion (and a 1000watt drill with iron brush!!) it looks like this...

Testing was done, the worn engine blows lake a hurricane. 1,5 hours for re-assembly, and the blower can be re-installed:

Interior, getting the last parts in

Yes, finding the right parts to restore her is not easy. Just to give you as smell how my Saturday morning looked like:

9.40 Jag Parts & Cars: great service, in one go I got the left door armrest, mid-console, and front door armrests. Ontop a good talk and some further advice on the Jag. A real recommendation.

12.30 Hornbach Breda. Great assortment. Got the spray glue (Bison) and tubes I need for the heater.
13.45 Arrival home. A great surprise, my wife ready with a fresh made lunch, what else is there to desire?

'n ol' Jag just leaks...

... yes, they do. Old Jags just leak. After taking out the rear window (which feels great though, to cut the windows out). The Green Lady showed some extra 'ventilation' below the rubber on the right side.

Some 7 EUR expoxy from the DIY store does the job in 5mins:

Headlining Part two: placing it

SNG Barrat delivered the headlining fast and in perfect condition, with good advice.

Now it's time to start the work...

It seems worse than is was, good thing is that the sky-plate is in relative good condition.
So first remove old glue and lining parts:

 

Best glue comes with SNG the headling, 1 liter is enough:

Do the gluing of the sky with two, but after all the parts are in, the result is JUST-ASTONISHING!

Interior, rebuilding the parts for headlining

Seems 35 years of moisture did not do her good. It is time to re-build and restore the fresh new leather smell and feeling of the good old classic times!

All metal parts, are cleaned and new painted in anti rust primer (it's like doing the washes):

The headlining has arrived and my wife is happy I can use the kitchen for nesting all parts on the head-lining (this is 1.5x4 meters fabric):

Renovating the windscreen whiper

seems easy, but taking it out was a little hazzle, make sure you ware gloves for the grease!

Interior is not perfect, seems like he has been whiping for 35 years...

But I took some diesel from my own car (no petrol) and with a little brush, this is the result:

Rebuilding, is not difficult, but make sure first attach the electrical connector, else you re-build again (trust me....)

Than putting it all under a fine layer of fresh grease, and another 35 years can come!
